Education Program for Full-time Postgraduate of Materials Engineering (085204)

1. Overview of professional field

The master program for materials engineering has the right to confer the Master of Engineering. The subject is derived from the Colloid and Interface Chemistry, Plastic Molding and Processing, Packaging Engineering and relevant disciplines of former Wuxi College of Light Industry. It has focused on functional polymer materials, macromolecular colloid and interface, advanced coating science and technology (provincial-level characteristic specialty in Jiangsu and national-level characteristic specialty), environment-friendly and degradable polymer materials engineering and made a great deal of innovative researches and applications, contributing to the technical progresses and development of relevant areas and industries in China greatly. Award the master program for materials science in 2003, the master program for materials engineering in 2009 and the first-level master program for materials science and technology in 2010. Among 40 teachers in this subject, 37% of them have the title of professor, 35% of them have the title of associate professor, 82% of them are PhD, 32% of them are returnees, 2 teachers are selected as New Century Talents of Ministry of Education, 1 teacher is listed in Jiangsu Excellent Talent Program and 1 teacher is the member of Teaching Committee of Polymer Materials and Engineering of Ministry of Education. Additionally, establish an incubator for excellent scientific and technological innovation groups in Jiangsu colleges and universities. Graduates fall short of supply. Most of graduates work in enterprises (mainly foreign enterprises and state-owned enterprises) while a few of graduates go abroad for further study or continue the study for PhD.

2. Educational objectives

Professional master degree is a professional degree relating to the job qualification in the engineering field. It places emphasis on the engineering applications and foster talents for industrial and mining enterprises and engineering construction units, particularly applied talents, interdisciplinary high-level engineering and technical talents and engineering management talents for state-owned large and medium enterprises.

Uphold the basic line, guidelines and policies of CPC, love the motherland, observe laws and disciplines, boast a good professional ethics and dedication, have scientific, precise and pragmatic learning attitude and working style and keep healthy physically and mentally.

Master fundamental theories, advanced techniques and means of the field engaged and the independent capacity of engineering design, implementation, research, development and management in one direction.

4. Program duration

The program lasts for 2.5 years. Postgraduates will spend minimum 2 years at school. The maximum duration shall not exceed 3.5 years.

5. Credit requirements and curriculum

Postgraduates in this major shall get minimum 36 credits and minimum 28 course credits, of which there are minimum 10credits for, 2 credits for academic reports and 6 credits for professional practice.

6. Methods and requirements of education and assessment and requirements of academic dissertation

Refer to the Education Program of Jiangnan University for Full-time Postgraduate of Engineering for details.

The Program will be enforced for postgraduates admitted in 2014 and later. The power of interpretation shall be vested in the School of Chemistry and Material Engineering.
